Governor Quinn Announces $266,000 for Renovation Projects at Highland Community College

Press Release - Thursday, November 07, 2013

FREEPORT – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $266,000 for renovation projects on four buildings at Highland Community College in Freeport. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“It’s important that we maintain the buildings at our community colleges, which train students for in-demand careers,” Governor Quinn said. “By doing so, we help maintain our infrastructure and employ a number of construction workers, which also helps the local economy.”

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.

The Natural Science and Fine Arts Buildings will receive upgraded climate control systems and ventilation systems, while Buildings M and R will get new windows. Winter Construction Inc. of Freeport will do the general renovation work for $188,680 while Mechanical, Inc. of Freeport will perform the ventilation work for $77,900. Both contractors were the lower of two bidders.

“Highland Community College is a valuable educational, economic and cultural resource for northwestern Illinois, and it’s important that we maintain campus facilities,” State Senator Tim Bivins (R-Dixon) said. “It’s also good to see the renovation work is being done by local contractors.”

These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
