Governor Quinn Announces $1.6 Million for Renovation Projects at U of I Buildings

Press Release - Thursday, November 07, 2013

URBANA – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of nearly $1.6 million for renovation projects on three buildings at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“It’s important that we maintain the buildings at the state’s flagship institution of higher learning,” Governor Quinn said. “By doing so, we help maintain our infrastructure and employ a number of construction workers, which also helps the local economy.”

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.

The Main Library on campus will be renovated in a project that includes replacing and repairing windows, re-pointing brick and stone, cleaning stone work in the courtyard, and replacing art glass windows in the reading room. Grunloh Constructioon, Inc. of Effingham was the lower of two bidders for the work at $1,022,000.

The heating, ventilation and air conditioning system controls will be upgraded at the Law Building and Everitt Lab. The $574,370 project will be performed by Central Illinois Electrical Services of Bartonville.

These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
