Breathe Easy Save Easy Sweepstakes August Winner Selected, New September Prize Announced

Press Release - Wednesday, September 12, 2012

CHICAGO, IL –Illinois Partners for Clean Air (Illinois PFCA) is pleased to announce the first monthly winner in the Breathe Easy Save Easy Sweepstakes. Theresa Wimberley, of Elgin, was selected as the first monthly prize winner. Ms. Wimberley will receive two box seat tickets to a Chicago White Sox game along with an $80 RTA FareCheck, good for the purchase of CTA, Metra and Pace passes, as well as an Advanced Energy Saver Kit for energy savings up to $1,200. The August prize package was donated in part by E.W. Inman and other Illinois PFCA Corporate Sponsors
On August 1, residents of the Chicago region were introduced to the Breathe Easy Save Easy Sweepstakes. The year-long sweepstakes challenges participants to select easy to do actions that have both the effect of reducing air pollution and saving money. A list of those actions is attached. Each month, Illinois PFCA will award an eco-friendly prize package to one lucky resident who signs-up by checking what they CAN and DO to save money and clean the air.
Ms. Wimberley noted she CAN take action to reduce traffic congestion by taking public transit, RideSharing or walking/biking. She also noted she DOES use a programmable thermostat, energy efficient lighting, keeps her water heater thermostat turned down, and unplugs electronics when they aren’t in use. Ms. Wimberley’s actions already save her over $800 annually and reduce her energy consumption. By adding public transit, RideSharing or walking or biking instead of driving, she could save thousands more each year, reducing carbon emissions by 20 pounds each day.*
“When united together, our small actions can have a significant impact on our air quality,” noted Kim Biggs, Chairperson for Illinois PFCA. “By introducing the cost savings with the environmental benefit, we hope residents will be further encouraged to take action.”
The September prize package for one lucky resident will be a Two Year Premium Membership to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago. The package includes unlimited general admission for 2 adults and children 18 and under in the household as well as four free guest passes. The gift package
also includes behind-the-scene tours, a 10 percent discount at the Museum Shop, free admission to over 250 museums around the world and discounts at local green businesses. Like the August prize, an $80 RTA FareCheck has been added to encourage the use of public transportation. The Premier Membership has been generously donated by the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.
Individual residents can take part in the Breathe Easy Save Easy Sweepstakes by logging onto the website at www.BreatheEasySaveEasy.com or through the Illinois PFCA website at www.CleanTheAir.org to learn about daily actions they can take to reduce air pollution and save money. Entry forms will also be available at Illinois PFCA community outreach events throughout the year. A complete list of events can be found on the Illinois PFCA website.
Illinois residents at least 18 years of age who reside in Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties are permitted to enter once per month, and can win just once in a 12-month period. Those who choose to receive Air Pollution Action Day notifications through a new, free Illinois EnviroFlash subscription will receive a second entry in their name during the given month. Complete rules are available on the sweepstakes website www.BreatheEasySaveEasy.com.
