Governor Quinn Announces $16.2 Million for Capital Projects in Williamson, Franklin and Pope Counties
MARION – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a total of $16.2 million in capital investments for construction projects in Williamson, Franklin and Pope Counties. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“These projects will maintain and improve key southern Illinois roadways and state facilities, and provide a bike path in one community,” Governor Quinn said. “The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”
The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage the projects except where noted. The contracts were recently awarded following a competitive bidding process and address critical infrastructure needs while creating construction jobs.
A third lane will be added and other improvements made to Interstate 57 north of the Illinois Route 13 interchange to north of the Johnston City interchange. Southern Illinois Asphalt Co., Inc. of Marion was the lowest of three bidders for the project with their quote of $10,617,253.
Morgan Avenue in Marion from Carbon Street east to North Russel Street will be widened and drainage ditches, culverts, curb and gutter, and other items installed for $1,701,444. Sierra Bravo Contractors, LLC of Sesser was the lowest of three bidders for the work.
An eastbound and westbound through lane will be added to Illinois Route 13 from west of the Shawnee Trail to west of Greenbriar, about six-tenths of a mile west of Carterville, for $1,246,452. Southern Illinois Asphalt Co., Inc. was also the low bidder on this project from among three proposals submitted.
Three bridges in Franklin County and one in Williamson County that cross Interstate 57 will be cleaned and painted by Thomas Industrial Coatings, Inc. of Pevely, Missouri for $914,790, the lowest of three bids submitted.
Another project involves constructing four-tenths of a mile of new frontage road and a bike path between Main Street and Wolf Creek Road in Crainville. George E. Jones Excavating, LLC of Marion was the lowest of three bidders for the work with their quote of $855,032.
Four Mile Road in Franklin County from Deering Road east to Logan Road will be resurfaced and shoulder work performed by Short Brothers Construction Company, Inc. of Marion, the lowest of three bidders for the job at $473,619.
Repairs will be made to the Dixon Springs Boot Camp in Pope County. The project involves Dorm # 2, a 10,258-square-foot, one-story building constructed in 1983. Post mold remediation building repairs will be performed, including reconstructing walls, ceilings, windows, doors, lighting and duct work so that the area can be reoccupied. The general construction contract was awarded to Fager-McGee Commercial Construction, Inc. of Murphysboro on their bid of $187,400, the lowest of three submitted. The heating and air conditioning contract went to the lowest of four bidders, Southern Illinois Piping Contractors, Inc. of Carbondale for $152,800. The Illinois Capital Development Board will manage the project.
The Village of Royalton will receive a new bridge about one-third of a mile south of Illinois Route 149. Dees, Inc. of West Frankfort submitted the lowest of two bids for the work,$222,345.
These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which is supporting more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
