Governor Quinn Announces $2.1 Million for Construction Projects in Effingham and Cumberland Counties
Projects Will Improve State’s Infrastructure and Create Construction Jobs

EFFINGHAM – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $2.1 million for construction projects in Effingham and Cumberland Counties. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.

“These construction projects will improve transportation safety and efficiency in Cumberland and Effingham Counties,” Governor Quinn said. “They will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy as well.”

The Illinois Department of Transportation will manage the projects,

A 1.76 mile multi-use trail and a pedestrian bridge with wood decking will be constructed in Effingham from Kingwood Subdivision to the existing Phase 1-B Trail, and from the south end of Hilltop to Nazarene Road. A.J. Walker Construction Company of Mattoon was the lowest of three bidders at $1,110,918.

Resurfacing of two Cumberland County roads, including the recycling of existing roadway materials, will be done for $796,570. The roads involved are County Highway 18 from the Coles County line to Sixth Street in Neoga, and County Highway 2 from County Road 1050N to Illinois Route 121. Dunn Company of Decatur was the lowest bidder.

A bridge carrying Township Road 34A over Fulfer Creek about one mile southwest of Gilmore will be replaced for $202,564 by Perry County Construction Company of Herrin, the lowest of five bidders.

These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
