Press Release - Wednesday, November 27, 2013

KANKAKEE – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $141,000 for a construction project at Kankakee Community College. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“This work will improve accessibility at the Kankakee campus so even more people can take advantage of this tremendous academic resource,” Governor Quinn said. “The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”
The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.
Accessibility for the campus’ Technology Building will be improved for $141,893 by Ruben E. Smith Construction and R & R, Inc. of Bradley, the lower of two bidders. The work will include the installation of a vertical lift platform, constructing a second floor access corridor bridge over the first floor corridor, and re-routing mechanical equipment and utilities to accommodate the lift and bridge.
This project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
