Governor Quinn Announces $609,000 for Romeoville Airport Improvements

ROMEOVILLE – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a $609,000 capital investment for a construction project at the Lewis University Airport in Romeoville. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward. The contract was awarded following a competitive bidding process and addresses a critical infrastructure need while creating construction jobs.

“Investments in airports like this one in Romeoville make them safer and more efficient,” Governor Quinn said. “The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive local economy forward.”

The project will involve the rehabilitation of the airport entrance road. Gallagher Asphalt Corporation of Thornton was awarded the contract on their bid of $609,663. Construction should begin in May. The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics will manage the project, which also includes some local funding.

“The improvements at Lewis University Airport continue efforts to upgrade our region’s infrastructure,” State Representative Emily McAsey (D-Lockport) said. “In addition to creating construction jobs, the projects in the region will help spur economic growth by further meeting the needs of local businesses. State leaders must continue to invest in our roads, bridges and airports to meet the needs of our growing community.”

The state funds for the project come from Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which supports more than 439,000 jobs over six years. It is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
