Governor Quinn Announces $4.2 Million for Grade Separation Project in O'Fallon
O'FALLON - Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $4.2 million for a road/railroad grade separation project in O'Fallon, part of his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program. The project is part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.
"Our investment will separate vehicle and train traffic at a key O'Fallon intersection, making travel safer and eliminating many traffic delays," Governor Quinn said. "The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive the local economy forward."
An overpass will be built to carry Venita Drive over the CSX Railroad tracks. The project will also involve the reconstruction of the Venita Drive and U.S. Route 50 intersection, and the relocation of Frontage and Taylor Roads in the area. The Kilian Corporation of Mascoutah was the lowest of eight bidders with a quote of $4,203,869. The project will be overseen by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
"Any project of this size has a very real impact on the community - it keeps workers in their jobs, improves safety and promotes efficiency," State Senator James F. Clayborne, Jr. (D-Belleville) said.
"This project is essential to helping provide safer travel, less congestion and needed job creation," State Representative Eddie Lee Jackson (D-East St. Louis) said. "Projects like this help us revitalize the state and local economy by improving rail infrastructure to better move goods and services, providing a lasting impact on our communities. I'm glad to see state resources being devoted to our local communities for job creation and infrastructure upgrades."
The project is part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
