Governor Quinn Announces $17.7 Million for Construction Projects in Lake and McHenry Counties

GRAYSLAKE - Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $17.7 million for construction projects in Lake and McHenry Counties. The investments will create jobs and improve the state's infrastructure. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the projects are part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"These investments in Lake and McHenry Counties are putting people to work, creating jobs that will help drive the local economy," Governor Quinn said. "They are also helping to repair and maintain Illinois' infrastructure to improve safety and efficiency throughout the region."

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation except where noted.

Lake County

The cooling and electrical systems at the College of Lake County will be upgraded for a total of $639,958. The work includes the main electrical power distribution system, emergency power, fiber optics, a dry fire suppression system and card reader access doors. The successful bidders for the project, which will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board, include:

  • Electrical: Boller Construction Co., Inc. of Waukegan, $200,000, the lower of two bidders.
  • Climate Control: Ideal Heating Company of Brookfield, $190,665, the lowest of six bidders.
  • Ventilation: Amber Mechanical Contractors, Inc. of Alsip, $161,300, the lowest of five bidders.
  • Sprinklers: Nelson Fire Protection Co. of Rockford, $87,993.

Traffic signals will be upgraded and interconnected on Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake and Round Lake Beach. The improvements will stretch from Rollins Road to South Rosedale Court. Home Towne Electric, Inc. of Lake Villa was the lowest of three bidders at $449,712.

Illinois Route 137 will receive resurfacing from U.S. 45 to Illinois Route 83 for $802,185 by Peter Baker & Son Co. of Lake Bluff, the lower of two bidders.

Illinois Route 43 will receive resurfacing from north of Lake-Cook Rd. to Osterman Ave., and from Deerfield High School to Illinois Route 22 for $1,287,287 by Peter Baker & Son Co. of Lake Bluff, the lower of two bidders.

U.S. 12 will receive resurfacing from Ela Road to Lake Cook Road in Lake Zurich, Deer Park and Kildeer for $5,591,635 by Lorig Construction Company of Des Plaines, the lowest of five bidders.

Illinois Route 134 will receive resurfacing from U.S. 12 to Illinois Route 120 for $2,590,534 by Peter Baker & Son Co. of Lake Bluff.

Construction of a shared use path and bicycle parking shelter, storm sewer relocation, signage, pavement markings and concrete stairs will be done adjacent to McKinley Road from Illinois Road to Woodland Road in the City of Lake Forest for $764,838 by A. Lamp Construction Contractors, Inc. of Schaumburg, the lowest of five bidders.

Cedar Lake Road will receive traffic signal interconnection and traffic signal upgrades from Rollins Road to South Rosedale Court in the Villages of Round Lake and Round Lake Beach for $449,712 by Home Towne Electric, Inc. of Lake Villa, the lowest of three bidders.

McHenry County

Illinois Route 173/U.S. 14 will receive 5.4 miles of resurfacing between Brink St. and Alden Rd. in the City of Harvard for $1,941,365 by Lorig Construction Company of Des Plaines, the lowest of four bidders.

U.S. 14 will receive 0.96 mile of resurfacing between Illinois Route 23 and Brink St. in the City of Harvard for $772,013 by Peter Baker & Son Co. of Lake Bluff, the lowest of three bidders.

Illinois Route 73 will receive resurfacing from County Line Rd. to Flat Iron Rd. in Dunham and Chemung Townships for $999,409 by Peter Baker & Son Co. of Lake Bluff, the lowest of three bidders.

Illinois Route 120 will receive resurfacing between Green St. and Charles St. for $397,357 by Peter Baker & Son Co. of Lake Bluff, the lower of two bidders.

The bridge carrying U.S. 14 over Lawrence Creek will receive box culvert and pavement replacement for $1,081,262 by Sjostrom & Sons, Inc. of Rockford, the lowest of five bidders.

The projects are part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
