Governor Quinn Announces $1.9 Million Investment in Paris Readiness Center

Press Release - Thursday, October 09, 2014

PARIS - Governor Pat Quinn today announced a $1.9 million state and federal investment to convert a correctional center gymnasium into a field maintenance shop for the Paris Readiness Center. Today's announcement is part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward, and to make sure men and women serving our country have the facilities they need to support their mission.

"It's important that we maintain our state infrastructure, especially when it comes to our military facilities," Governor Quinn said. "This work on the Paris Readiness Center will help this vital military facility supply our citizen soldiers with the training and support they need."

The project will convert an 11,700-square-foot correctional center gymnasium and support space into an Illinois National Guard Field Maintenance Shop. This will involve utility upgrades, space reconfiguration, and the installation of two drive-through maintenance bays, an overhead crane, wash bay, underground storage tank and a fuel dispensing system. The facility will be capable of servicing all types of vehicles used by the Illinois National Guard.

The construction project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board. The successful bidders include:

  • General construction: Grunloh Construction, Inc., Effingham, $1,141,000.
  • Electrical: Skill Electric, LLC, Vincennes, IN, $365,400, the lowest of three bidders.
  • Climate control: Heartland Mechanical Contractors, Murphysboro, $207,500, the lowest of three bidders.
  • Plumbing: Houk Mechanical, Inc., Urbana, $202,900, the lowest of four bidders.
