Governor Quinn Announces $2.1 Million to Renovate Large Animal Veterinary Clinic

Press Release - Thursday, October 16, 2014

URBANA - Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $2.1 million to renovate the Large Animal Veterinary Medicine Clinic at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The investment, funded by the Governor's Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, is part of Governor Quinn's agenda to improve educational opportunities, create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"This facility has a double benefit because it teaches veterinary medicine and offers a place for animal treatment," Governor Quinn said. "By upgrading the clinic we can also create jobs to boost the local economy."

The renovation project will improve all areas of the teaching hospital, where services are provided to cattle, horses and other large animals while providing valuable experience for veterinary medicine students. Upgrades will be made to the large animal clinic ward, isolation ward, lecture halls, small animal clinic west wing, electrical animal hoists, teaching spaces, medical gas systems and parking areas. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board. The successful bidders include:

  • General construction: Grunloh Construction, Inc. of Effingham, the lower of two bidders.
  • Electrical: Anderson Electric, Inc. of Springfield, $217,413, the lower of two bidders.
  • Ventilation: A & R Mechanical Contractors of Urbana, $169,356, the lowest of three bidders.
  • Climate control: A & R Mechanical Contractors, $125,850, the lower of two bidders.
  • Asbestos abatement: Midway Contracting Group, LLC of Tinley Park, $125,000.
  • Plumbing: Davis-Houk Mechanical, Inc. of Urbana, $75,424, the lowest of five bidders.

The project is part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
