Governor Quinn Announces $598,000 for Work on University of Illinois Springfield Campus

SPRINGFIELD - Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $598,000 for construction projects on the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) campus. The investment, funded by the Governor's Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, is part of Governor Quinn's agenda to support colleges and universities in Illinois.

"This investment helps keep the UIS campus up to date so it can operate properly and students can have access to first-rate facilities," Governor Quinn said. "This will keep UIS competitive in today's higher education environment and help ensure that students get the proper education they deserve."

The campus improvements include life safety upgrades to the Visual and Performing Arts Building, including the heating and ventilation systems, dust removal and upgrades to the outdoor kiln area. The Illinois Capital Development Board will manage the construction project. The successful bidders include:

  • General construction: Siciliano Inc. of Springfield, $166,987, the lowest of three bidders.
  • Ventilation: Henson Robinson Co. of Springfield, $269,400, the lowest of three bidders.
  • Electrical: Prairie State Plumbing & Heating of Athens, $85,294, the lower of two bidders.
  • Plumbing: G.A. Rich and Sons, Inc. of Deer Creek, $76,950, the lowest of three bidders.

The project is part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
