Governor Quinn Announces $2.2 Million for Construction Project in Whiteside County
MORRISON - Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $2.2 million for a construction project in Whiteside County. The investment, funded by the Governor's Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, is part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.
"New infrastructure projects are creating jobs for hardworking men and women throughout Illinois," Governor Quinn said. "This investment in Whiteside County will improve local and state transportation networks and continue Illinois' road to recovery."
The project will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The bridge carrying Illinois Route 78 over French Creek at the south edge of Morrison will receive removal and replacement of the structure for $2,208,742 by Civil Constructors, Inc. of Freeport, the lowest of six bidders.
"The investments we are making into Whiteside County's infrastructure will help us keep our roads safe, as well as employ local workers," State Senator Mike Jacobs (D-Moline) said. "Good-paying jobs are the key to putting people back to work and growing our economy."
"Roads and infrastructure development are the key to unlocking economic development in this part of Illinois," State Representative Mike Smiddy (D-Hillsdale) said. "This project will bring jobs and increased activity to Whiteside County."
The project is part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
