Press Release - Monday, October 27, 2014

BLOOMINGTON - Governor Pat Quinn today announced a $1.1 million investment in Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington to improve safety and address critical maintenance issues. The investment is funded by the Governor's Illinois Jobs Now! construction program and is part of his agenda to improve higher education in Illinois, create jobs and drive the economy forward.

"This investment will help Illinois Wesleyan stay competitive so current and future students can have a great learning experience and make a difference in the world," Governor Quinn said. "We are pleased to help Illinois Wesleyan address their needs while creating jobs and driving our economy forward."

"Illinois Wesleyan University is very pleased to have received this grant, which will enable the University to fulfill state-mandated requirements related to the installation of sprinkling systems in residence halls and address other important priorities tied to the continuing care of existing facilities," Illinois Wesleyan President Richard F. Wilson said. "On behalf of the University, I wish to thank Governor Quinn and others involved in state government for their support of this very important program."

The $1.1 million state investment will help with the installation of vital residence hall fire safety systems and related projects, as well as critical construction needs in academic and residence hall facilities.

Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program is supporting more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
