Governor Quinn Announces $1.1 Million Investment for Kankakee River State Park Construction Project

Press Release - Wednesday, November 26, 2014

KANKAKEE - Governor Pat Quinn today announced an investment of more than $1.1 million for a construction project at the Kankakee River Conservation Area and State Park. The project is part of his $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program, and addresses a critical infrastructure need in the Kankakee area.

"I led passage of the Illinois Jobs Now! program immediately after taking office in 2009 because the state had gone nearly ten years without major capital construction legislation to repair and maintain the state's infrastructure," Governor Quinn said. "With Illinois Jobs Now!, we've been able to put hundreds of thousands of people to work on badly needed construction jobs while making areas like Kankakee better places to live and work."

The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.

Two waste water treatment plants at the state park will be demolished and removed, and one replacement treatment plant and a holding tank constructed. The work includes modifying the water supply and electrical power as necessary, including protection against a 100 year flood and restoring land disturbed by construction. The project also involves remodeling the existing Potawatomi Shower and Toilet Building, and expanding the existing building to double the number of shower stalls and fixtures.

The general construction contract was awarded to CMM Group, Inc. of Lansing, the lowest of three bidders at $803,710. Glade Plumbing & Heating Company of Kankakee received the plumbing contract on their bid of $249,770. Excel Electric, Inc. of Frankfort was the lowest of three bidders for the electrical work at $82,600.

The projects are part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
