Governor Rauner and Director Chaviano Commemorate Workers' Memorial Day at Essentra Specialty Tapes

FOREST PARK — Governor Bruce Rauner and Illinois Department of Labor Director, Hugo Chaviano, visited Essentra Specialty Tapes in Forest Park yesterday to commemorate the 44th Annual Workers’ Memorial Day. The Governor and Director highlighted the importance of preventing workplace injuries and fatalities and a renewed commitment to workplace health and safety.

Workers’ Memorial Day honors those workers who have died on the job, to acknowledge the grievous suffering experienced by families and communities, and to recommit to the fight for a safe and healthful workplaces for all workers.

“It is an honor to be here at Essentra Specialty Tapes,” opened Labor Director, Hugo Chaviano. “I would like to commend Essentra on their continued commitment to workplace safety. We encourage all small businesses to follow in the footsteps of Essentra and exploit the resources they have at their disposal, through OSHA, the Department and other organizations.”

The Department of Labor’s On-site Consultation Program's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recognizes small business employers who operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program. Essentra has maintained their SHARP status since 2006.

“The health and safety of our employees should always be a priority,” said Governor Rauner. “But we also need to create a business climate where companies like Essentra can compete and flourish.”
