State Announces "Where Workers Work" Report Now Available

Press Release - Thursday, November 05, 2015

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Employment Security announced today that the “Where Workers Work” report, a tabulation of employment as reported by employers to the state, is now available on the Department’s website.  The report reflects only private-sector employment for Chicago and the northeastern six-county area, and is produced once a year using first quarter data from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program.  The report and associated spreadsheets with data tables can be found here: http://www.ides.illinois.gov/LMI/Pages/Where_Workers_Work.aspx

QCEW data is derived from unemployment insurance tax records.  The data are totals of individual establishment records and reflect the number of establishments that exist in an area within an industry at a point in time.  The report provides updates on private-sector employment activity that include administrative changes – such as when a company has its county designation corrected – or  economic changes, such as a firm relocating into the county.  IDES produces the report around the beginning of November each year.
