Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Hosts Water Treatment Plant Open House

Press Release - Wednesday, June 29, 2016

(Quincy, IL)…. Today The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) invited media, partnering State Agencies and firms associated with the completion of the new Water Treatment Plant to the IDVA Veterans’ Home in Quincy, Illinois.

“We are very happy that after nine long months, the construction on our permanent water treatment facility is complete and that the facility is running full time,” said Director Erica Jeffries. “The mobilization and management of the outbreak here in Quincy was an unparalleled example of interagency collaboration and cooperation.”

The media were invited into the water treatment facility to see how the facility treats the water before it is provided to the end user. The water treatment plan will add additional disinfectant chemicals to the campus-wide water system to improve water quality. Testing of current water determines what type of disinfectant chemicals is added to the water daily. The water travels to the individual buildings where the hot water is heated to 165 degrees. Mixing valves cools the water before it is released through the various fixtures. Mr. Tom Buchheit, PE, CEM Principal of Bric Partnership, LLC, Belleville provided an overview of how the water is treated from the source to all buildings on the 210 acre campus.

The permanent facility has been running full time for the past 8 days. Bric Partnership was the lead Architect and Engineering firm of the project. The State of Illinois spent nearly $5 million in the mitigation and remediation of the water system at the Veterans’ Home and continues to be vigilant in monitoring the efforts.
