Governor Quinn Announces $3.7 Million for Construction Projects in Grundy, LaSalle, Livingston and Putnam Counties

DWIGHT - Governor Pat Quinn today announced investments of $3.7 million for road construction projects in Grundy, LaSalle, Livingston and Putnam Counties. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the projects are part of Governor Quinn's commitment to creating jobs and driving Illinois' economy forward.

"These projects will improve traffic flow and safety in north central Illinois, which benefits everyone," Governor Quinn said. "The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive local economies forward."

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Grundy County

Seneca Road will be resurfaced both south and north of its intersection with Marseilles Road. The total distance for the resurfacing work will be two-tenths of a mile. D Construction, Inc. of Coal City was the lower of two bidders at $159,819.

Grundy and Livingston Counties

The shoulders along Interstate 55 will be repaired from 1.8 miles south of Illinois Route 17 to 1.2 miles north of Illinois Route 47. D Construction, Inc. of Coal City was the lowest of four bidders at $2,013,348.

LaSalle County

The shoulders along Interstate 39 will be milled and the pavement resurfaced from just south of Illinois Route 251 to just south of Illinois Route 351. Advanced Asphalt Company of Princeton was the lower of two bidders at $729,149.

Putnam County

The structural steel on the Interstate 180 bridges over Illinois Route 26 and Bureau Creek west of Hennepin will be cleaned and painted. All States Painting, Inc. of Alexander was the lowest of six bidders at $699,798. Another I-180 bridge over the Illinois River at Hennepin will be cleaned and painted for $166,252 by Eagle Painting & Maintenance Co., Inc. of Lansing, the lowest of six bidders.

"There are a number of areas that could use infrastructure updates and improvements, so I'm glad to see that several of them will be checked off the list with the announcement of these projects," State Senator Sue Rezin (R-Morris) said. "Safety is the number one priority, which these projects will accomplish, but these projects are also important for the overall accessibility, reliability and ease of transport in the area. These projects will bring a lot of positive improvements to our roads."

"Improving our roadways is an important priority for me because this helps position our area for greater economic development opportunities and ultimately makes travel easier and safer for residents," State Representative Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) said. "I'll continue working hard to secure valuable funding for road upgrades and other infrastructure needs in our region, and to help get our economy in the best position for success."

The projects are part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
