Deadline Approaching For Shoot For The Skies PSA Video Contest

CHICAGO—Illinois EPA Director Lisa Bonnett issued a last call for submissions to the Illinois Partners for Clean Air Shoot for the Skies PSA Video Contest. Submissions are due in just six weeks, with the deadline being Friday, March 14 at 5:00 p.m.  Chicago area high school and college/university students are invited to write, direct and produce their own Public Service Announcement (PSA) video utilizing their talent, creativity and inspiration to educate the general public about Chicago area air quality and actions to improve it.

“Through this contest, we hope to inspire students who often have a great passion for the environment,” said Director Bonnett.  “Young people have the ability to bring new energy to a topic that has been discussed for years, and we look forward to seeing their creative work.”

Individuals entering the contest must submit their entries to the Illinois Partners for Clean Air (Illinois PFCA) YouTube channel ShootForTheSkiesPSA by March 14, 2014. Submissions will be judged by members of the Illinois PFCA Steering Committee.  PSAs should be created to coincide with the scoring criteria listed in the contest guidelines and rules, and incorporate the air quality tips and facts provided by Illinois PFCA.  Creativity is highly encouraged as long as PSAs promote air quality awareness and the specified actions to improve air quality.

The eligible winning high school and college/university will each receive $3,000 for a “Green” project, defined as a project or improvement to the school that benefits both the students and the environment.  Such projects could include, for example, installing energy efficient lighting, recycling bins, or conducting an energy audit.

Shoot for the Skies PSA Video Contest is open to Chicago area high school and college/university students in the Illinois counties of Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will. Winners will be announced during Earth Month, April 2014.
