Statement from Governor Pat Quinn on the Passing of Cal Sutker

CHICAGO - Governor Pat Quinn today issued the following statement on the passing of democratic leader Cal Sutker, a driving force in Illinois politics and a strong advocate for the Jewish community. Sutker held numerous elected and appointed positions including Skokie Village Trustee, Cook County Board Commissioner, Cook County Forest Preserve Commissioner, State Representative, Niles Township Democratic Committeeman and Illinois Democratic Party Chairman.

"Illinois lost a devoted public servant with yesterday's passing of Cal Sutker. A World War II veteran, Cal Sutker spent four decades as a lawmaker and civic leader, a tireless promoter of such enduring institutions as the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park. His energy, integrity and infectious smile will be long-remembered."
