Governor Quinn Statement on Marriage Equality

SPRINGFIELD - Governor Pat Quinn today issued the following statement on the Illinois House of Representatives' failure to pass the Marriage Equality Act that had passed the Illinois Senate earlier this year. The historic legislation would have made Illinois the 13th state in the nation to approve marriage equality.

"I am disappointed that the House of Representatives in the Land of Lincoln did not pass a historic measure that would have guaranteed equal rights and benefits for all citizens.

"I commend Rep. Deb Mell, Rep. Greg Harris and all the dedicated advocates who worked so hard to bring marriage equality to Illinois.

"This is not over. The fight goes on. We will keep on fighting until marriage equality is law in Illinois."
