Statement by Governor Pat Quinn Regarding Super Typhoon Haiyan

Press Release - Friday, November 08, 2013

CHICAGO - Governor Pat Quinn today released the following statement regarding Super Typhoon Haiyan:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Philippines and their loved ones here in Illinois as Super Typhoon Haiyan churns across Southeast Asia.

"With 165 mph winds, flash floods and mudslides, Haiyan is already being called the largest and most destructive storm in recent years. Millions of Filipinos are already without power and thousands are homeless. If the storm continues on its path, the people of Vietnam and Laos will be impacted by its catastrophic force by Monday.

"Our hearts are with the 200,000 Illinois residents of Southeast Asian descent and we stand ready to assist in any way possible."
