Governor Quinn Announces $1.2 Million in Upgrades at Lawrenceville Readiness Center
LAWRENCEVILLE – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $1.2 million to upgrade the Illinois Army National Guard Readiness Center in Lawrenceville operated by the Illinois Department of Military Affairs. The upgrades are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“This project is an investment in our men and women in uniform, an investment in our environment and an investment in the southern Illinois economy,” Governor Quinn said. “These upgrades will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”
Approximately 130 soldiers of the Illinois Army National Guard’s 631st Engineer Company train at the Lawrenceville readiness center.
“This project continues our effort of upgrading our facilities in order to be more environmentally friendly and fiscally responsible in addition to enhancing a critical training facility in southern Illinois,” Brig. Gen. Daniel M. Krumrei, the Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, said.
The work will involve upgrading the building’s climate control system, including associated electrical upgrades, replacing the controls, exhaust systems, dampers and upgrading the boilers and associated work. The project also provides for renovating the kitchen, including upgrading the ventilation system, installing kitchen equipment and associated electrical and interior renovations. The following contracts were awarded:
- Heating and air conditioning: Heartland Mechanical Contractors, Inc. of Murphysboro, $660,738.
- Electrical: Skill Electric, LLC of Vincennes, Indiana, $278,400.
- General construction: Grunloh Construction, Inc. of Effingham, $206,250.
- Asbestos abatement: Midway Contracting Group, LLC of Tinley Park, $113,000.
“Maintenance and improvements at the Readiness Center not only benefit those working at the facility, these upgrades provide a boost to the entire Lawrenceville community through job creation,” State Senator Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) said.
"We have seen the importance of the readiness and training of our National Guard while fighting terror abroad and responding to disasters at home,” State Representative Brad Halbrook (R-Charleston) said. “I am pleased that Lawrenceville will see these upgrades to keep this facility in top working condition long into the future."
The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board and uses federal funds administered by the State of Illinois.
