SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that a state revolving loan for $7,140,688 has been approved for the city of St. Charles, enabling the Kane County community to double its capacity to treat wastewater at its West Side Wastewater Treatment Facility.

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today earned high praise from Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his distinguished record of combating drinking and driving. In a national study released today, the governor received an "A" grade, the highest mark, and was recognized as "one of the strongest advocates of anti-DUI legislation in the nation."

Governor Announces New Manufacturing Facility In Monee
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced that Whiting Corporation, a Harvey, IL-based manufacturer of overhead traveling cranes, railcar maintenance equipment and metallurgical products, broke ground on its new manufacturing facility. The 200,000 square foot facility, expected to retain 250 local jobs, will be located in Monee, IL.

Governor Approves Measure Creating Tobacco Settlement Fund
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today signed legislation preparing the state to receive its share of settlement funds resulting from the multi-state lawsuit against the tobacco industry. House Bill 1628 creates the Tobacco Settlement Recovery Fund, a special state treasury fund required under the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement reached in November of last year.

Wheelchair Lifts Make Train Travel More Accessible To Persons With Disabilities

Ryan today announced that wheelchair lifts have recently been installed at 11 unstaffed Amtrak train stations across the state in an effort to make intercity train travel more accessible to persons with disabilities. The lifts were funded through a $120,000 state grant to Amtrak.
