SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced the following appointments to Illinois boards and commissions:

$5.6 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for Chicago
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $805,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Chicago's Far Northwest Suburbs, including $200,000 to the city of Crystal Lake to improve the intersection of Route 176 and Walkup Avenue.

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $5,617,500 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Chicago, including $2,000,000 to the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio to restore the Frederick C. Robie House.

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced that Fitch, a national credit rating agency, has upgraded the state's Build Illinois bond rating from AA to AA+.

Transora Establishes Permanent Headquarters in Chicago
CHICAGO -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced that global e-Marketplace Transora will establish its permanent global headquarters at 10 South Riverside Plaza in Chicago's West Loop. The company's new home will eventually accommodate more than 250 employees.

$7.2 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for DuPage County
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $7,263,500 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in DuPage County, including three grants totaling $5 million for the expansion and renovation of York High School in Elmhurst.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Governor George H. Ryan commended U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta and the FAA for moving ahead with the environmental review of the proposed airport in Peotone, while at the same time urging the Secretary to restore the airport project to a key planning list making the airport eligible for federal funding.

Governor Ryan Urges Lawmakers To Pass Supplemental Appropriation To Provide Health Care, Heating Assistance
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today urged the General Assembly to approve his proposed supplemental appropriation designed to supplement the Comprehensive Health Insurance Program for individuals who cannot obtain medical insurance; to help low-income citizens with their heating bills; close the Medicaid funding gap and to immediately provide an hourly wage increase for those caring for the developmentally disabled.

Ryan today introduced a $50 billion budget for fiscal year 2002 that proposes, for the third year in a row, an unprecedented commitment of 51 percent of new revenues to education while also continuing investments in our communities, human services and public safety.

Gov. Ryan Commits 51 Percent of New Revenue to Education, Backs Reforms of State Board of Education, Annual Testing
SPRINGFIELD -- Gov. George H. Ryan today in his budget address announced 51 percent of all new revenue, $460 million, will be committed to education and workforce training for a total of nearly $9 billion in the next fiscal year. The Governor also endorsed proposed reforms to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Illinois State Board of Education, as well as efforts by education and business leaders to develop annual student testing.

He also joined Visit Illinois in honoring First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan for her efforts on behalf of tourism in Illinois. All winners were announced during the Governor's Awards Luncheon at the 2001 Governor's Conference on Tourism.

Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1.2 million in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Kankakee and Illinois River Valleys, including $500,000 to the Will County Community Development Department to make various improvements to the Clearview Sanitary sewer and water system. The county is contributing $1.5 million.

Ryan announced today that he is releasing $308,450 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Northwest Illinois, including $75,000 to Montmorency Elementary School in Rock Falls to replace the roof, a classroom, and a hallway destroyed by a tornado. The school is contributing $391,915.

Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1.7 million in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Southwestern Illinois, including $393,000 to the City of Mascoutah to construct a new indoor pool and an adjoining recreation complex and for renovation to existing facilities.

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $375,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in western Illinois, including $175,000 to the Table Grove Fire Protection District to purchase a new rescue/pumper fire truck. Additionally, the funds will be used to purchase a fire fighting apparatus and equipment for the truck.

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George Ryan today announced the State of Illinois and the Red Cross are joining together to set up a special relief effort that will allow Illinois residents to support the relief work in India following last month's earthquake. The earthquake killed thousands and left tens of thousands more injured and homeless.

Governor Signs Bill to Help Landowners in Fight to Keep Property
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today signed legislation enabling the State of Illinois to join 15 East-Central Illinois landowners in the defense of their property. The bill authorizes the Attorney General's office to pay for legal services to defend the property owners in a lawsuit filed by the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma.

The Motorola Foundation Donates $1 Million to Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum
CHICAGO -- Illinois First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan today accepted a $1 million gift from the Motorola Foundation for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The $115 million, two-building complex to be built in downtown Springfield will house the state's 46,000 item Lincoln collection, while serving as the new home of the Illinois State Historical Library.
