First Lady Announces Illinois Preschool Rollout Sites
CHICAGO—First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan, chair of the Illinois Preschool Council, today announced the rollout of Illinois Preschool at the Illinois State Board of Education’s December meeting. Illinois Preschool is a program that will give all Illinois families a choice of quality preschool options for their three- and four-year-old children.

Teen Births in Illinois at New Low
SPRINGFIELD – Governor George H. Ryan today announced the lowest level in teen births since statistics were first gathered by age in 1959. This is the seventh straight year the percentage and the number of births in Illinois were down for teens 19 years of age and younger.

Illinois Reads and Wewrite Corporation Contribute Books to Illinois Workforce Advantage (IWA) Communities
CHICAGO- Governor George H. Ryan today announced the donation of more than 2,000 books to children in nine of Illinois’ most underprivileged communities through his Illinois Reads and Illinois Workforce Advantage initiatives. Illinois-based publisher WeWrite Corporation is contributing 1,000 books to support these programs.

SPRINGFIELD – Governor George H. Ryan today announced the issuance of a construction permit for the first new mine-mouth coal-fired electric plant in Illinois in more than three decades – a 91-megawatt project Corn Belt Energy Corporation plans to build in southern Logan County.

Governor Ryan Dedicates New Regional Emergency Dispatch Center
$1.8 million Illinois FIRST grant used to construct new RED Center to Improve Statewide Emergency Dispatch and Coordination
NORTHBROOK—Governor George H. Ryan today joined with local officials to dedicate the new Regional Emergency Dispatch (RED) Center in Northbrook. The RED Center is part of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) statewide mutual aid network and will improve the state of Illinois’ emergency response capabilities in the event a terrorist attack were to occur.

Ryan, joined by Governor-elect Blagojevich and Reverend Jesse Jackson, today announced that $3.8 million dollars from the state’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) has been earmarked to help Illinois residents who've had their heat turned off for lack of payment.
