State to receive $9.3 million federal grant to build new State Emergency Operations Center
CHICAGO, IL – Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich today announced that Illinois will receive a $9.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to build a new state-of-the-art State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC). Governor Blagojevich received word of the grant today from Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge.

Blagojevich takes fight for lower prescription drug prices to Capitol Hill
Joins allies in Congress to push for legislation permitting drug re-importations, calls on FDA to give states flexibility in pursuing lower prices
Washington, D.C. – Illinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich traveled to the nation’s capital today to rally Congress to help states and local governments gain access to the lower priced Canadian prescription drug market. The Governor was joined by U.S. Reps. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), Gil Gutknecht (R-MN), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO) and other members of Congress at a press conference on Capitol Hill.

CHICAGO – Taking the next step in his aggressive effort to secure lower drug prices for Illinois taxpayers and consumers, Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich today called on the Food and Drug Administration to reverse its policy that prohibits state and local governments from importing drugs from Canada, where prices are 30 to50 percent lower.

CHICAGO – Recognizing the critical role affordable housing plays to the economy and quality of life in every Illinois community, Governor Blagojevich today signed an Executive Order to create a broad-based, integrated comprehensive plan to coordinate the effective creation of affordable housing across Illinois. A task force chaired by the Director of the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), Kelly King Dibble, and composed of housing experts, developers and heads of state agencies, will develop the plan.

ILLINOIS HISTORY FAIR TEACHER WORKSHOP SEPTEMBER 27 IN SPRINGFIELD TO FEATURE ROUTE 66
SPRINGFIELD, IL – The history of Route 66 and how it can be presented in the classroom will be the focus of a teacher workshop to be held Saturday, September 27 at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library at Sixth and Jefferson Streets in downtown Springfield. Teachers can earn Certified Professional Development Units (CPDUs) at the free workshop, which is being held in conjunction with the annual Route 66 Festival in Springfield and is sponsored by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA).

Governor announces nearly half-billion dollars in school construction grants
71 school districts across the state to receive capital aid
CHICAGO, ILL. – Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich today announced $482 million in school construction grants that will be awarded to 71 school districts throughout Illinois this fiscal year to help renovate deteriorating buildings and construct new school facilities. Altogether, the grants will help fund 26 new schools and improve 243 existing schools, adding a total of 2,185 new classrooms to Illinois’ public school system.
