Thanksgiving Luncheon Sponsored by Chicago Blackhawks Charities Brings Community Hard Hit by Tornadoes Together for Holiday
WASHINGTON – Governor Pat Quinn, Congressman Aaron Schock, Washington Mayor Gary Manier and Chicago Blackhawks President & CEO John McDonough joined today to host a Thanksgiving Luncheon for victims of the recent tornadoes and their families. The luncheon - sponsored by the Chicago Blackhawks Charities - was also a way to thank first-responders and volunteers who have worked around the clock since the severe storms touched down on Nov. 17. Last night, President Barack Obama approved the Governor’s expedited request for federal assistance to help people and businesses in Washington and across 15 Illinois counties recover from the deadly tornadoes.

Governor Quinn Encourages People Across Illinois to Help Someone in Need This Thanksgiving
Governor Volunteers at Greater Chicago Food Depository to Prepare Holiday Meals
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today visited the Greater Chicago Food Depository to help volunteers prepare holiday meals and emphasize the importance of supporting Illinois’ food banks this holiday season and throughout the year. The state’s eight food banks help provide nutritious meals and food to families in need. According to Feeding Illinois, there are currently more than 1.9 million people across the state who do not have access to nutritious food.

Governor Quinn Announces Swift Federal Approval of Tornado Relief for 15 Counties
Residents Can Immediately Begin Registration for Grants and Low-Interest Loans; Businesses Can Apply for Low-Interest Loans
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced President Barack Obama has approved his request for federal assistance to help people and businesses in 15 Illinois counties recover from the Nov. 17 deadly tornadoes. The announcement comes just one day after Governor Quinn submitted his request for Champaign, Douglas, Fayette, Grundy, Jasper, LaSalle, Massac, Pope, Tazewell, Vermilion, Wabash, Washington, Wayne, Will and Woodford counties. Since Nov. 17, Illinois’ emergency management officials have worked around-the-clock to expedite the federal request and direct aid into the communities as quickly as possible.”

Governor Quinn requested a federal disaster declaration for Champaign, Douglas, Fayette, Grundy, Jasper, LaSalle, Massac, Pope, Tazewell, Vermilion, Wabash, Washington, Wayne, Will and Woodford counties.

Governor Quinn Delivers Supplies to Help Tornado Recovery in Brookport
Portion of Donated Items for Philippine Relief Will Help Hundreds in Southern Illinois Who Lost Homes, Possessions in Storm
BROOKPORT – Governor Pat Quinn today announced the delivery of nearly 300 pallets of donated supplies to help people in Brookport recover from the deadly tornado that damaged or destroyed more than 150 homes. Prior to the Nov. 17 tornadoes, the supplies were originally collected to provide assistance for people who were devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, but the Rizal Center has not yet been able to transport the goods to the Philippines.

Governor Quinn Announces Illinois’ Economy Posts Strongest Growth in the Midwest
State Gains 25,000 Jobs During September and October
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that Illinois’ economy posted the strongest growth in the Midwest for September and October, with a gain of more than 25,000 jobs over the two-month period. Illinois reported significant employment gains for both months, while every other Midwestern state lost jobs or barely registered growth in September. Today’s announcement is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to creating jobs and driving Illinois’ economy forward.

The legislation permits all couples in the Land of Lincoln to receive the rights and protections of marriage.

Other counties declared state disaster areas by Governor Quinn include Champaign, Douglas, Grundy, Jasper, LaSalle, Massac, Pope, Tazewell, Wabash, Washington, Wayne, Will and Woodford counties.

Governor Quinn Joins First-in-the-Nation 150th Anniversary Reading of the Gettysburg Address
Famous Speech Read at Midnight from an Original Copy at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum
SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn tonight joined the nation’s first reading of the Gettysburg Address on the 150th anniversary of the famous Abraham Lincoln speech. At a special display of an original copy of the document in Lincoln’s own handwriting, Governor Quinn and visitors at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield listened as a Lincoln re-enactor read the Gettysburg Address at midnight to kick off the commemoration of the November 19, 1863 oratory that is one of the world’s best-known and most-often-quoted speeches. Tonight’s commemoration is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to promoting Illinois’ Lincoln heritage.

Governor Quinn Adds Six Counties to State Disaster Declaration
Volunteer Efforts Underway to Assist Victims of Recent Tornadoes; Department of Insurance Offering Free Counseling in Washington
SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn today declared Douglas, Jasper, Pope, Wabash, Wayne and Will counties state disaster areas following violent storms and tornadoes on Sunday that affected several regions of the state. The declaration increases the number of declared counties to 13. On Monday, Governor Quinn declared Champaign, Grundy, LaSalle, Massac, Tazewell, Washington and Woodford counties state disaster areas after a severe storm system ripped across Illinois, spawning at least two EF4 tornadoes.

Governor Quinn Announces FEMA Tornado Damage Assessments Will Begin November 21
Documentation Will Support Request for Federal Assistance
SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will begin damage assessments on Thursday, November 21 in several Illinois counties devastated by Sunday’s tornadoes and severe storms. The assessments were requested by the Governor and will provide the documentation necessary to support a request for federal assistance.

CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today declared seven counties state disaster areas after severe storms generating tornadoes and high winds ripped across Illinois. Hundreds of homes and businesses have been damaged or destroyed, hundreds of thousands of people are without power, and numerous roads throughout the state have been closed by fallen trees and downed power lines. At least six people are reported dead and dozens more injured.

As part of his agenda to ensure Illinois embraces all people, Governor Quinn first called for marriage equality in May 2012 and made it a top legislative priority this year, featuring it in his 2013 State of the State address.
