Joins Residents of Washington as Year Comes to a Close; Signs Legislation to Aid Communities Recovering From Natural Disasters
WASHINGTON – As 2013 draws to a close, Governor Pat Quinn today visited the tornado-ravaged community of Washington to encourage residents to take advantage of the federal aid available for those impacted by the deadly storms on November 17. The Governor also signed legislation that is part of his commitment to ensuring the state does everything necessary to help families and communities across Illinois as they rebuild and recover from the historic natural disasters that have struck Illinois this year.

Governor Quinn Announces $7 Million Investment in Godfrey and Quincy Community Colleges
Lewis and Clark Community College Leading National Consortium to Place Workers in High-Skill Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Jobs
GODFREY – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey is leading a consortium of nine community colleges in eight states that have been awarded $23.8 million in federal funds to train and place workers in high-skill transportation, distribution and logistics jobs. Lewis and Clark will receive $4.9 million and John Wood Community College (JWCC) in Quincy will receive $2.1 million for their parts in the effort. Today’s announcement is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to driving Illinois’ economy forward and ensuring all people have the opportunity to follow their dreams and reach their full potential.

Governor Quinn Announces $7 Million to Divert Non-Violent Offenders from Prison to Community Programs
Adult Redeploy Illinois Awards Will Expand Community-Based Alternatives to Incarceration
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that 31 Illinois counties will receive a total of nearly $7 million to divert non-violent offenders from prison into more effective community-based services. The investments are through Adult Redeploy Illinois, a proven, successful program that is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to reducing crime and improving public safety. Under Governor Quinn’s leadership, Illinois’ recidivism rate has dropped from 55 percent to 47 percent.

Governor Quinn Announces U of I’s Lincoln Hall Earns Nation’s Highest Green Building Designation
LEED Platinum Rating is Only the Second for a Historic Building in Illinois
URBANA – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that the state-funded rehabilitation project at the University of Illinois’ Lincoln Hall has allowed the building to achieve LEED Platinum status, the nation’s highest “green building” designation. This designation is particularly difficult to achieve with projects on historic buildings like Lincoln Hall, and it is only the second historic building in the state of Illinois to be certified LEED Platinum. Today’s announcement is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to making all state buildings as energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly as possible.

Governor Quinn Announces 5,000 Affordable Rental Homes Financed in 2013
State Support Enables Creation and Preservation of Quality Housing, Creates Jobs Across State
CHICAGO – Governor Quinn today announced that the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) provided more than $471 million in financing this year to make 5,000 quality affordable rental homes available to working families, seniors and people with disabilities. Since Governor Quinn took office, IHDA has provided $2.2 billion in financing to build or preserve more than 19,600 affordable apartments in 131 communities across the state, generating an estimated 20,280 jobs. Today’s announcement is part of the Governor’s agenda to ensure quality affordable housing for people in-need across Illinois.

Illinois Jobs Now! Capital Program Providing $20 Million in Grant Funding
SPRINGFIELD, IL – Public museums in Illinois can receive funding assistance to improve museum facilities and develop new exhibits through the Illinois Public Museum Capital Grants Program. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), which administers the program, is accepting applications from qualifying public museums. The deadline to apply is 5:00 pm on Monday, February 3, 2014.

Counties included in the request include Champaign, Douglas, Grundy, Massac, Tazewell, Vermilion, Washington, Wayne and Woodford. If the request is approved, local governments could receive reimbursement for 75 percent of eligible disaster-related costs such as overtime, debris removal and repair and replacement of damaged public property.

Unprecedented Collaboration of 20 Health and Hospital Organizations Earns Federal Award to Study and Deliver Best Practices for Treating Diseases

CMS Extends Retiree Dependent Audit Deadline Until January 31st

SPRINGFIELD – The Department of Central Management Services (CMS) announced today that it is extending the deadline for the state’s dependent eligibility verification audit until Jan. 31st, 2014. The deadline had been previously extended to Dec. 6th as a result of the federal government shutdown.
