Governor Quinn Receives Seasonal Flu Shot as Part of Walgreens Get a Shot, Give a Shot Campaign
Encourages All Illinois Residents to Get a Flu Shot to Protect Themselves While Helping Children in Need
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today rolled up his sleeve to receive his yearly flu shot and remind everyone in Illinois of the importance of this annual vaccination. The Governor’s flu shot was administered by a pharmacist at the Walgreens flagship store in Chicago, where they announced a national immunizations campaign between Walgreens and the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life. Under the partnership, now through October 14th for every flu shot or other vaccine administered at Walgreens or Healthcare Clinic at select Walgreens, the company will help provide a life-saving vaccine for a child in need in a developing country.

Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace Announces Official Name: “Get Covered Illinois”
Statewide campaign reflects shared vision and ultimate goal of increased healthcare coverage
CHICAGO – The state of Illinois today unveiled “Get Covered Illinois” as the official brand name for its new health insurance marketplace, where residents will be able to find quality coverage as mandated by the Federal Affordable Care Act. The name is both a call-to-action and a description of the service this marketplace expects to provide through web, phone and personal interactions with customers beginning October 1. The brand tagline reads: “The Official Health Marketplace.”

Governor Quinn Announces Health Plan Rates are 25 Percent Below HHS Estimates
95 Percent of Illinois Residents will have Access to at Least 34 Plans Rates Will Be as Low as $120 Per Month for a 25-year-old in Chicago
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that rates for the benchmark plans that will be offered on the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace are more than 25 percent below U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) estimates. The Governor made the announcement as Illinois is awaiting final federal approval for 165 health plans that are expected to be offered by eight insurers as options on the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace. Today’s announcement is part of Governor Quinn's commitment to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Illinois, and ensure that all people have access to quality health care.

New Website Honors “Trailblazer of the Day”; Upcoming Exhibit Salutes Latino Inventors

“Portrait of a Soldier” Memorial Exhibition on Display at Columbia College Chicago
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today honored the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and servicemembers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan by proclaiming Sept. 11, 2013 as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. The Governor also unveiled the “Portrait of a Soldier” memorial exhibit at Columbia College Chicago. The exhibit features a series of hand-drawn portraits of nearly all of the 306 Illinois men and women who died in the 9/11 terrorist attack, Iraq, Afghanistan or in combat service to our country since Sept. 11, 2001. The exhibit is part of Governor Quinn’s long-standing commitment to honor Illinois’ men and women in uniform.

Governor Quinn Announces Chicago Clean Water Project to Create More Than 300 Jobs
$1 Billion Illinois Clean Water Initiative Will Invest Additional $25 Million to Upgrade Chicago Water Pipelines and Mains
CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today awarded a $25 million low-interest loan to the City of Chicago to be used to replace more than 18 additional miles of water pipes throughout the city. This announcement is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to drive Illinois’ economy forward and protect the environment by modernizing Illinois’ water infrastructure. Funded through Governor Quinn’s $1 billion Illinois Clean Water Initiative, the project will help meet the clean water needs of 5.2 million area residents and create more than 300 direct and indirect jobs.

Japan is the second largest source of foreign direct investment in Illinois and the source of more than 50,000 jobs in Illinois. POSEN – Governor Pat Quinn today kicked off construction of a new ramp connecting northbound Interstate 57 to the northbound Tri-State Tollway (I-294). The Governor was joined by local elected officials and labor representatives to sign the first steel girder for the new I-294/I-57 ramp, which is part of the $254 million first phase of an interchange project that is supporting thousands of jobs over two years. The project supports Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and build a 21st century infrastructure that will drive Illinois’ economy forward.

CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced that Illinois has set an all-time record for tourism, breaking the 100 million visitor mark in 2012. International visitors rose 11.8 percent last year to set another new record and push the total to 101 million. Tourism in Illinois generated an estimated $33.5 billion and 298,700 jobs for the state’s economy, also new high marks for the state.

Governor’s Key State of the State Priority Would Increase Minimum Wage from $8.25 to $10
CHICAGO – On this Labor Day holiday, Governor Pat Quinn today honored workers across Illinois by visiting Chicago’s historic Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church to continue his ongoing fight to raise Illinois’ minimum wage from $8.25 to $10. Governor Quinn made raising the minimum wage one of his priorities in his 2013 State of the State address and today’s visit furthers his commitment to ensuring all Illinois workers are treated fairly and receive the compensation they deserve.
